About Michael Alford Prints
A Michael Alford print is more than a reproduction of a painting. It’s a carefully considered way of bringing the artist’s distinctive view of the world into your home.
Michael Alford personally selects every painting for the collection of Limited Edition Prints, choosing paintings he considers to be among the most representative examples of his own work. The collection reflects the subjects that have moved and inspired him throughout his career, from atmospheric London cityscapes and lively scenes of city life to landscapes, seascapes and nudes. The collection offers an opportunity to own an artist-curated piece of Michael Alford’s creative world.
Michael Alford is personally involved in the production of every print. He oversees the preparation and printing process to ensure that the finished reproduction captures the colour, detail, atmosphere and character of the original painting as faithfully as possible.
The same care and attention are given to Custom Prints. Whether you choose a painting from the Limited Edition collection or commission a print of another Michael Alford work, the image preparation and printing process are personally overseen by Michael, with the same exacting standards applied to every print.
Quality is central to the way the prints are produced. From the initial high-resolution image through to the finished fine-art print, each stage is carefully checked. Michael personally guarantees the quality of every print that leaves his studio.
The result is a collection of museum-grade, archival-quality fine-art prints, produced with the same care and attention to detail that goes into the original paintings. For collectors and admirers of Michael’s work, these prints offer the opportunity to own a beautifully produced example of his art, selected by the artist himself or created to your requirements, and produced to the highest standards.
The Print Process
Every Michael Alford print is produced to the highest standards, with the aim of capturing as faithfully as possible the character, colour and detail of the original artwork.
The process begins with a high-resolution digital image of the painting. Careful attention is given to the capture of colour, tonal range and fine detail, ensuring that the digital image retains the subtle qualities of the original work. Print preparation is overseen personally by Michael Alford at every stage, from the preparation of the image through to the final print.
The prints are produced using the giclée printing process, a highly regarded fine-art printing method that allows exceptional control over colour, tone and detail. Fade-resistant, pigment-based inks are used to produce rich, accurate colours and fine tonal gradations. Under appropriate conditions, these inks are designed to remain stable for up to 100 years without significant yellowing or degradation.
Each print is made on Hahnemühle German Etching, 310 gsm, a premium museum-grade fine-art paper. Its distinctive, softly textured surface has a velvety quality that adds depth and character to the reproduction, while providing an excellent foundation for the exceptional colour and detail achieved through giclée printing.
Particular care is taken to preserve the qualities that make an original Michael Alford painting distinctive: the depth and accuracy of its colours, the subtle variations of tone, and the fine details and textures of the brushwork. The combination of high-resolution image capture, careful preparation, pigment-based inks and fine-art paper allows these qualities to translate beautifully into print.
The result is a museum-grade, archival-quality reproduction, created for collectors who appreciate both the artwork itself and the quality of its presentation.
Every Michael Alford print is made to order and personally overseen throughout the preparation process, reflecting the same care and attention to detail that goes into the original paintings.
